Family, money, fame … David and Victoria Beckham seemingly lead a dream life! One of their former collaborators, however, lived a nightmare by their side. He tells it in a book, and reveals that he ended up taking drugs and having a burn-out.
“Their life is not so glamorous“as one thinks, writes Andy Bernal in his autobiography, Riding Shotgun. The title is a reference to his place in the passenger seat in the vehicle of David Beckham, of which he is the agent (see slideshow). Their collaboration began in 2003, the year the footballer transferred to Real Madrid from Manchester United. On Instagram, Andy Bernal recently reposted a press clipping, devoted to the conditions of this transfer; David Beckham had called him at 1 a.m. to tell him that he wanted to go to the You meringues.
“Stepping into the life of David and Victoria is like stepping into the life of James Bond. Nothing should be left to chance. Each trip is organized like a high-level military operation … The pressure is enormousAndy Bernal writes in his book, noting that his duties included waking them up in the morning (or catching them in the middle of a frenzy). The pressure was heightened by a scandal in 2004; the British tabloids revealed that Beckhs had an extra-marital relationship with his ex-assistant, Rebecca Loos.
