David Alaba who makes Bayern Munich regret

Munich

David Alaba immediate success with Real Madrid in his first year. It made Bayern Munich regret letting him go.

Alaba was released by Bayern last summer, after his contract expired. The Austrian defender did not extend it, and chose to withdraw from the Allianz-Arena.

Alaba then chose to move to Real Madrid. Los Blancos signed him, as a replacement for Sergio Ramos, who also moved to Paris Saint-Germain.

Together with Madrid, Alaba seems to be an immediate success. The 29-year-old defender played 46 times and made 3 goals and 4 assists, and helped win two titles, namely the LaLiga trophy and the Champions League.

This apparently made Bayern sad because they let Alaba go last year. Former CEO Karl-Heinz Rummenige apologized because Die Roten couldn’t keep the player.

“I am very sorry for David’s departure,” Rummenigge told Bild.

“I’m sorry for that. He was a leader in defence, and had a great year under [Hansi] Flick when we won the Champions League in Lisbon.”

“His departure from Bayern was very visible. Honestly that’s what I regret,” he said.

Alaba has indeed been part of Bayern’s success for more than a decade. The player who was bought from Austria Wien presented 27 trophies, including 10 Bundesliga titles and two Champions League titles, with a record 431 appearances playing and making 33 goals.
