Formula E driver Daniel Abt caused a scandal in the fifth virtual run of the electric series. The man from Kempten did not contest the race of the “Race at Home Challenge” on Saturday, but had his racing car piloted by Sim-Racer Lorenz Hörzing (Austria) over the virtual course in Berlin-Tempelhof.
Abt was transferred from Formula E and subsequently disqualified, he also loses all championship points of the Challenge so far and has to donate 10,000 euros to a non-profit organization.
The 27-year-old had raised suspicions because his video camera was switched off during an interview, and later the face of the pilot was covered by an object.

“I would like to apologize to Formula E, all the fans, my team and my driver colleagues for using outside help during the race on Saturday,” said Abt on Sunday: “I didn’t take it so seriously how I should have done it. I am aware that my offense has a bitter aftertaste, but it was never meant maliciously. “
Abt and Hörzing ended the race in third place, after the disqualification the former Formula 1 driver Pascal Wehrlein (Worndorf) advanced.
The proceeds of the “Race at Home Challenge” will go to the children’s aid organization Unicef.
