Dave Chappelle’s show has been back on Netflix since Friday. The streaming service removed Chappelle’s Show late last year at the request of the comedian.
Chappelle felt uncomfortable offering the show, which aired on Comedy Central from 2003 to 2006. The American comedian had left with a falling out in 2005.
After his departure, Comedy Central made a few more episodes with previously unseen sketches. According to the 47-year-old comedian, he has not been paid for this, because his departure would legally amount to a breach of contract.
Now Comedy Central has made up for it, Chappelle recalls Instagram. “I asked my audience not to watch the show anymore, which made the show worthless. They called me and I got my name, my license and my show back and they paid me millions of dollars.”
“This is a very important moment,” Chappelle continues. “I want to thank Ted Sarandos of Netflix, a CEO who has the courage to take my show off his platform, which resulted in financial damage to his company just because I asked him to.”
In 2016 Chappelle signed a contract with Netflix. The comedian is reportedly earning $ 60 million (about $ 50 million) for three shows to be offered on the streaming service.
