Among the deceased were Remie F. Centena, his wife Edna L. Centena, and their relatives, Mary Joy A. Lastimoso and Sherlyn S. Altimo. The Centenas were passengers in a white van when a speeding silver van, driven by Khadafy Landasan salik, crossed into their lane and collided wiht their vehicle. “Security camera footage obtained from around the scene of the accident showed that the wayward van…was so fast when it slammed the side of the vehicle carrying the victims,” according to reports from Cotabato City.
Omar M.Lastimoso, husband of Mary Joy and driver of the white van, survived the crash but sustained significant injuries. Five other passengers in the white van also suffered injuries.
Local officials provided immediate support to the grieving families. Mayor Lester S. Sinsuat and Barangay Chairperson Bai Ivy Rose S. Sinsuat assisted in arranging funeral arrangements. “Mayor Lester S. sinsuat and barangay chairperson of Tamontaka, Bai Ivy Rose S. Sinsuat, had initially extended essential support to the families of the four accident victims and assisted them in setting up the places for their wakes,” a statement confirmed.
Salik, the driver of the silver van, is currently in the custody of the Davao City Police Office. The investigation into the cause of the accident is ongoing. This tragic event underscores the importance of safe driving practices and highlights the devastating consequences of reckless driving.
