“Ms. Salsala Alikhil, daughter of the Afghan Ambassador to Islamabad, was abducted while on her way home on July 16 by unknown persons and severely tortured in Islamabad,” the Afghan Foreign Ministry said in a statement.

The daughter of the Afghan ambassador, Najibullah Alikhil, was released within hours and is currently under medical treatment in a hospital, the letter added.

The Afghan Ministry of Foreign Affairs also expressed “its serious concern regarding the safety of its diplomats, their families and employees of the consulates in Pakistan” and urged the government of the neighboring country to take measures to guarantee protection in the embassies.

The Afghan authorities also called on Pakistan “to identify and bring to justice the perpetrators of this crime.”

For its part, the Pakistani Foreign Ministry said in a statement that it has launched an investigation to clarify what happened and that it has reinforced the security of the Afghan ambassador and his family.

“We reiterate that the safety of diplomatic missions, as well as diplomats and their families, is of the utmost importance. These incidents cannot be tolerated,” the ministry said.
