Tapachula, Chiapas; August 27, 2026.- The need to find blood donors in case of a medical emergency is something very recurrent in any city in the world, which is why the clinical analysis area of the laboratory of the Faculty of Chemical Sciences of the UNACH, organizes and creates a database called “Bida”.
In an interview, the person in charge of the project, Luis Maribel Escobar de León, stressed that it is not a blood bank as such. She clarified that the objective is for potential blood donors, or those who are willing to do so, to come to the Faculty of Chemical Sciences.
There they will be interviewed by medical personnel, and it does not matter if they are students or not, external people can attend.
The project is called the Altruistic Donor Information Bank (BIDA).
To participate, those interested must meet certain requirements, such as being of legal age and being willing to undergo a medical evaluation, in which a doctor conducts a survey to determine certain health aspects, as well as a laboratory test, and based on the results, data is collected to determine whether a donor is a potential donor.
The objective, he insisted, is to support patients who require a blood donor, so that they can have that opportunity in time, with information about possible donors.
He stressed that the most difficult blood groups to obtain are A and B Negative, which are very complicated.
The program began this August with the participation of medical students, and at the moment they already have a list of “20 possible donors,” but they hope that the database will continue to grow. EL ORBE/ JC
