This is done through the use of automated programs

Data from the profiles of 500 million LinkedIn users have appeared for sale in popular hacker forums. A representative of the popular business social network has confirmed that the data was taken from her.

However, it does not appear to be a hacker attack in the original sense as there is no system breach. A LinkedIn spokesman said the data appeared to be taken from publicly available account information and combined with more data from other sites and companies.

This is done through the use of automated programs that go around the sites and copy freely available information. Account identifiers, names, email addresses, phone numbers, gender, place of work and links to other social networks have been copied. According to sources, the hackers are selling the archive for a 4-digit amount, which has not been specified.

LinkedIn is a well-known social network with a business focus of about 740 million users. It was bought by Microsoft years ago, but continues to work autonomously.
