Data Resilience in Enterprises: Threats and Solutions

Arcserve Resilience Study Executives don’t take data security seriously

Providers on the topic

The majority of IT managers recognize the importance of their own data for ongoing operations, but a quarter struggle with the fact that company management does not take this issue seriously. This can have serious consequences for the entire organization.

More than two-thirds of IT leaders surveyed by Arcserve said business continuity could not be guaranteed if they lost access to their data.

According to Arcserve’s survey of IT leaders for the „State of Data Resilience in the Enterprise Report“80 percent of the companies surveyed had already been affected by a ransomware attack. Last year alone, 40 percent of companies suffered the loss of sensitive corporate data due to a breach of a SaaS application. But despite this enormous threat and high risk, only 42 percent of all SaaS applications are monitored and secured by the companies themselves. Everyone else relies on reliable data protection from “third parties” or they leave their data completely unsupervised – a risk that can have serious consequences not only in terms of reputation, but also in terms of the economic viability of an organization.

According to the survey, an average of 30 percent of organizations were unable to fully recover their data following a ransomware attack. It’s no surprise that almost half of those surveyed admitted to having suffered significant losses in sales due to a data incident. Only 31 percent of the companies contacted as part of the survey are confident that they can restore their data within 24 hours.

The 3-2-1-1 principle

Effective protection against ransomware and data loss is the 3-2-1-1 backup strategy: three copies of company data, storing backups on two different disks, offloading one copy of the data, and ensuring that one copy is unchangeable .

Companies that successfully implement the 3-2-1-1 backup strategy can better defend against the effects of cyberattacks or resolve them more quickly. However, there is still a lot of work to be done in this area: almost a quarter of respondents said that their company has not yet implemented the 3-2-1-1 backup strategy.
