The Tilburg Het Laar residential care organization in Tilburg was the victim of a hack this week. Around 9,000 healthcare institutions in the Netherlands, including Het Laar, use Carenzorgt.nl to share digital health records and personal data. Criminal hackers have stolen tens of thousands of documents, according to police.
Documents with data were also stolen from Het Laar in Tilburg. It is not clear how many documents there are. Residents received a letter warning them to pay more attention and, for example, not to click on a hidden link in an email. Het Latter declined to comment on the hacking.
A 19-year-old man from Krimpen aan den IJssel has since been arrested on suspicion of involvement in the seizure of the data. He was arrested immediately after the hack and released after being interrogated. A suspect remains in the case.
Police are investigating whether the stolen data has been distributed.
Groenlo’s Nedap, the developer of the program, reported the data theft.
