Such hyperscale data centers have been heavily automated and super modular for many years. If ITers are involved from the Netherlands, that would really surprise me. I would think there will be mainly low level jobs, mainly security and assembly personnel. The actual control can take place remotely, certainly in such highly automated cloud data centers.
So how does this yield high-quality work for the Netherlands over the long term? The only Dutch industry that benefits from this, next to the construction industry in the Netherlands. Will be a lot like ASML as this will turn out to be a silicon eater.
You may be able to tap into this data center a little bit of heat at relatively low temperatures. However, in a relatively sparsely populated area, this is of course of little use.
As far as solar panels and windmills are concerned, I’m guessing that a large part of the Flevopolder will then be converted into a production facility for Facebook/Meta.
Are we really waiting for this in NL? Serious question. A US tech giant that clearly makes its money selling its users’ information.
And if we now had the guarantee that it would generate billions in taxes for NL. But usually these kinds of multinationals have taken sufficient measures to channel their profits through obscure island states.
Dus what’s in it for Nederland?
