Data breach: Edison Mail shows foreign emails

After updating the iOS application from Edison Mail, emails from other Edison Mail users were displayed in the inbox after activating a new account synchronization function. According to the manufacturer, this serious data breach is said to have occurred only with some users. The update was quickly withdrawn. Edison Mail is an email program for iPhone, iPad and MacOS as well as Android.

Edison Mail wrote on 9to5Mac: “Some of the users who received the update are experiencing a bug in the app that affects email accounts and was brought to our attention this morning. We quickly withdrew the update affected Edison Mail users (limited to a subset of users who have updated and opened the application in the past 10 hours) to notify them. “

The update had given the email client a synchronization function with which email accounts can be synchronized across all users’ devices. Apparently, this is also the access data, because otherwise foreign users could hardly have received emails from other users in their inbox.

On Twitter reported Users not just that error, but also expressed clear resentment about the company that deals sloppy with its customers’ data. Some announced that App never want to use again.
