Sandra Arias-Perez and Mathieu Ospital, two employees of the Dassault factory in Anglet and members of the Nouvelle-Aquitaine Sport Entreprises league took part in the 24ᵉ edition of the European Games of Sport in Business, which took place in mid-June in Bordeaux.
This inter-company sporting event brought together 7,500 athletes, representing 26 different nationalities. The famous aircraft manufacturer, the only participant from the Basque Country, competed in mixed padel, the cousin discipline of tennis. The Dassault duo was made up of Sandra Arias-Perez, who has worked in the logistics department for 15 years at Dassault Aviation, with Mathieu Ospital, a member of the preparation department of the industrialization unit.
“By qualifying directly for the semi-finals of the competition, after finishing first in the aircraft group, we already had a chance of getting on the podium,” explains Mathieu Ospital. It was the reigning European champions who cut them off from the final in a cleaver match. “However, we felt that the silver medal was within our reach, because it was decided on a decisive tie-break”, indicates Mathieu Ospital.
First participation
The bronze medal served as a nice consolation. “It’s not bad anyway, because we trained on our own and it was quite rare that we played together, we only played a few games. But we are also lucky to have the support of the sports section of the Dassault-Biarritz Sports Association, which allows us to play padel with preferential rates, at the Club de l’Adour in Tarnos which has covered courts. . This allowed us to train, even in bad season. »
“Our structure has around fifteen disciplines, adds Sandra Arias-Perez, including football, pelota, and sections oriented towards leisure such as cooking or photography. Each section has its internal functioning according to its number of members. »
During the closing ceremony, the duo received congratulations from Didier Besseyre, president of the European and French federations, from Frédéric Domège, former municipal councilor of Biarritz, who chairs the Nouvelle-Aquitaine league, and Patrick Mail, president of the commission. league sports.
Congratulations all the more deserved as it was the first participation of Sandra Arias-Perez and Mathieu Ospital in this high-level competition which includes 38 disciplines and in which France finished first.
