On Wednesday evening, September 8, lyricists and poetry lovers gathered for the poetry award ceremony of the literary magazine “Domuzīme” in the garden of the Ojārs Vācietis House / Memorial Museum. This award was given for the first time in 56 years since the establishment of the Poetry Days tradition. It must be said that in 1965, when the first days of Poetry took place, no one even thought of such an award: the magazine “Domuzīme” began to be published only in the next millennium, but its current editor was born only a year later – in 1966. The first Poetry Prize for the best collection of original Latvian poetry, published from September 2020 to August this year, was received by the poet Liepa Rūce – for her first collection “Atspulga balss”, published by Pētergailis. Poet Jānis Vādons, the chairman of the Poetry Award Poetry Prize jury, emphasized that although the collection “Atspulga balss” is a literary debut, the book proves careful, talented work, maturity that can create tense, precise poems.
