Darwin – London: Qantas flies non-stop Australia – Europe with A380

Because Singapore no longer allows transit flights, Qantas has to stop somewhere else on the way to London. That makes for a special flight.

Air traffic has actually come to a standstill. But there are still very special flights. For example, an Air Tahiti Nui Dreamliner recently flew the 15,715 kilometers from Papeete to Paris without stopping. And flights are also starting this week in Australia that have never been seen before.

Qantas Airbus A380s fly from Darwin to London for a few days without stopping. This connection has never existed before. Usually the planes stop on the prestige route in Singapore. But that has been prohibited since Tuesday (March 24th). The city-state has banned all transit traffic.

It will end on March 26th

So the super jumbos are now stopping in Darwin for a petrol stop before embarking on the more than 16-hour journey to London. However, this will soon come to an end. The last Qantas A380 on the so-called kangaroo route takes off on Thursday (March 26). The Australians then stop all international flights.

It is the first time that there is a non-stop flight between Darwin and London, but it is not the first time that Darwin is part of the kangaroo route. There was a connection between Sydney and London as early as the 1930s. But the trip lasted twelve days and Darwin was one of 31 stops.
