Darts world mourns death of Andy Fordham | Darts

sport">Fordham took the world title from the darts association BDO in 2004 with a victory in the final over Mervyn King. The obese darter nicknamed The Viking was often in the news because of health problems.

sport">Fordham confessed to being addicted to alcohol and sometimes drinking a case of beer a day. In 2014, he lost a lot of weight and tried to make a comeback. Fordham’s last professional appearance was at the 2018 World Masters.

sport">Dartsbond BDO is deeply saddened by the death of their former world champion. “Darts legend Andy (The Viking) Fordham, was a true gentleman in our sport who we will miss terribly.”

sport">Barry Hearn, the boss of the largest darts association PDC, commented: “Andy was one of the most recognizable darts players in the world during his career and extremely popular everywhere.”
