Our darts jewel has tasted blood!
At the World Cup in the venerable “Ally Pally” in London, Fabian Schmutzler (16) was unlucky enough to be eliminated in the first round. But just a few days later, the Frankfurter, who lives in Preungesheim, has big goals in mind again.
“Between January 9th and 15th I’ll be playing at the Q-School again,” Schmutzler reveals to BILD. The goal: the big darts PDC tour with all world-class players. Schmutzler wants to show that his courageous appearance in London was only the beginning of his career.
He has already analyzed it extensively: “I’ve already watched the game three times.” And not just because of the mega atmosphere: “I could have played a little more consistently. I almost enjoyed it too much. “
“Fab” even forgot the intended 180 cheers: “Actually, after a 180, I wanted to cheer with rabbit ears into the camera. Somehow I didn’t do it after all. “
Nevertheless: Schmutzler also left such a lasting impression – also with his mega-idol Raymond van Barneveld (54)!
“Barney congratulated me on my game and said I should be very proud of myself,” enthuses the Hessian. In one thing, Schmutzler has even beaten his role model: “He said he played a lower cut than me on his Ally Pally debut. Now he has five World Cup crowns, which is motivating. “
There was also a long chat and advice with top player Dimitri Van den Bergh (27) – at the breakfast table in the hotel.
The arrows talent uses the end of the year to relax. Christmas was spent with relatives in Zwickau. Mother Pina and father Andreas (both 51) were able to look forward to a very special gift: “As soon as my new darts are there, the Ally-Pally arrows will be in my parents’ showcase as a souvenir.”
By the way: The 16-year-old also took home prize money. The equivalent of a good 8,700 euros. Schmutzler: “From January onwards, my driver’s license will be paid for, among other things.”
