Darts: Springer and Unterbuchner cancel participation in the Europe Super League; Hurtz and Jeseke move up

Niko Springer has secured a place at the World Darts Championship via the Development Tour Order of Merit. He is only the second German to secure a ticket to the most important tournament of the year through the PDC’s junior series.

Springer would have had another option to secure a ticket to the “Ally Pally” via the Europe Super League, but he will no longer have to go that route. This means his place in the Europe Super League is now vacant.

It has now been announced that the Meenzer boy will not take part in the HYLO PDC Europe Super League. Michael Unterbuchner has also canceled his participation in the tournament.

According to the Super League rules, Daniel Jeske and Michael Hurtz will move up for Springer and Unterbuchner via the PDC Europe NEXT GEN.

“We are pleased that another player, Niko Springer, was able to qualify for the World Championship before the HYLO PDC Europe Super League. That speaks for the quality of sport in Germany. Daniel Jeske and Michael Hurtz are two worthy replacements who will contribute to an exciting Super League,” says Philip Brzezinski, Head of Sports at PDC Europe.

The Super League is a tournament held in Germany, the winner of which qualifies directly for the World Darts Championship. This year 30 players are taking part in the event. The top 16 of the HYLO PDC Europe Super League 2023, the top 10 of the PDC Europe talent series “NEXT GEN” and the four best-placed players of the NEXT GEN Youth Order of Merit are eligible to play.

In 2024, the Super League was opened to players outside of Germany for the first time. Players from Switzerland, Austria, Luxembourg and Liechtenstein can also qualify via the NEXT GEN Order of Merit.

A total of four days will be played in the traditional Hall 39 in Hildesheim. The event is open to on-site spectators on both Thursday and Friday.
