Darta Danevich’s mono-performance “Boys are not girls”

Diana Kaijak, director of the production, says: “This play is also about hope. About an inner strength that goes on.”

The play was created as a result of a meeting between actress Darta Daneviča, playwright Matīs Gritzmanis, who also translated the play, and director Diana Kaijak. All those involved, independently of each other, were familiar with this work by Dennis Kelly and each had the idea of staging it once.

To understand the core of the play, the creative team held special meetings with specialists. For example, a week before the premiere, actress Dārta Daneviča invited psychotherapist Juri Batņa and philosopher Jana Kukaini to discuss the play and experiences in real life in a relaxed atmosphere.

There has also been collaboration with psychotherapist Artūras Miksons. Fragments of conversations between Darts and specialists about plays and human nature will also be included in the program of the show and on the theater’s website.

Together with Diana Kaijakas, Dartas Danevičas and Matīsa Gricmanis, scenographer and costume designer Ieva Kauliņa, composer Ernests Valts Circenis, lighting artist Reinis Zalte, movement consultant Inga Krasovska are working on the creation of the show.
