CHARLOTTE, NC, USA (AP) – Sam Darnold threw for 305 yards and two touchdowns and the Carolina defense put on another solid defensive performance in Sunday’s 26-7 win over the New Orleans Saints.
Darnold went 2-0 as a starter for the Panthers and hit touchdowns with Brandon Zylstra and DJ Moore to give Carolina a 17-0 lead, outscoring the Saints 274-65 in the first half.
Christian McCaffrey added 137 yards and scored his first touchdown of the season as the Panthers outscored the Saints for the second time in the past 10 meetings.
Jameis Winston, who threw five touchdown passes in last week’s 38-3 win over the Green Bay Packers, had just 111 yards through the air, was intercepted twice and sacked four.
Alvin Kamara was limited to just five yards on 8 carries and the Saints struggled after missing five defensive coaches due to COVID-19 protocols.
