In return, all 14 to 17-year-olds in Darmstadt received a simplified ballot paper and further information by post. In addition, online workshops were offered for preparation, it says in a message. Aim of the project: political education and participation.
The results included the ballot papers of 317 out of a total of 7,000 young people, said Ralf Silber, education officer of the youth ring on FR request. Around 360 minors took part. Silber sees one reason for the low turnout in the fact that this time, due to the corona pandemic and distance teaching, there was only one school as a polling station. Otherwise, 14 youth centers and institutions were available as polling stations. A U-18 election is also planned for the federal election in September, but it will then take place nationwide.
