Darmstadt: “Window of Freedom” in the New Artists Colony

In the atelier house LEW 1 at the entrance to Park Rosenhöhe in Darmstadt, the series “Nah * Another_Statements” of the association “Kultur einer Digitalstadt” starts on Friday with a reading and video installation.

With the support of the city and the Merck Society for Art and Science, the association “Kultur einer Digitalstadt” wants to use a new format to draw attention to the diverse works of Darmstadt artists over the next few weeks. As part of the virtual series of talks that has been running since the summer with artists and cultural workers, 20 Darmstadt artists will make their artistic statements over the next few weeks.

The atelier house Ludwig-Engel-Weg 1 (LEW1), which is located directly behind the Löwentor at the entrance to Park Rosenhöhe, the areas around the house and all digital channels of the cultural association are to be used as exhibition and presentation areas, for example to display contributions in the fields of art, theater, music and literature. Readings, short films, performances and concerts are offered. According to the photographer Lukas Einsele, the association, which was only founded in 2019, also pursues an interdisciplinary approach because it is about bringing together artists from different areas.

To kick off the “Nah * each other_Statements” there will be a reading and video installation entitled “Window on Freedom. A Blended Theater Experiment ”by Nadja Soukup and Angelina Dalinger at Atelierhaus LEW1 to see and hear. According to Soukup, the question of what it means to be free in times of pandemic, how free we actually are and where the limits of freedom are.

The performance will also be shown in digital form on the two following evenings at LEW1. On Friday evening, the kick-off event will also be broadcast via live stream on the Kultur-digitalstadt.de homepage and on all of the cultural association’s social media channels. The statements will then also be available there in the long term.
