Citizens’ initiatives in Darmstadt compete in the municipal election with two lists.
With the voter community Darmstadt (WGD) and the Free Voters (FW) there will also be two lists on the ballot papers for the municipal elections in Darmstadt, whose applicants are active in citizens’ groups. The two lists are the result of a dispute within the Alliance of Citizens’ Initiatives in Darmstadt (BBD) founded last year.
Last year, the delegates of several citizens’ initiatives voted with a large majority for cooperation with the FW, so that later a district association was founded and an electoral list was adopted at a general meeting. The top candidate of the FW in Darmstadt is Harald Uhl, who works as a professional supervisor. The FW advocate more climate protection and citizen participation, affordable housing and a fairer education policy. However, because some BI representatives refused to allow the BBD to appear as a list of FWs, the WGD was split off and founded. Business psychologist Falk Neumann is running for first place on the list. The aim of the WGD is to correct “undesirable developments” for which the green-black coalition is held responsible and to “contribute constructively to the improvement of the political situation in Darmstadt”.
The city’s electoral committee approved 14 nominations for election to the city council on Friday. The CDU, Greens, SPD, AfD, FDP, Die Linke, Uffbasse and Uwiga parliamentary groups represented in the city parliament will take first place. The Pirate Party, which has had a city councilor since 2016, will not run again. The other places are followed by the lists of WGD, FW, “Teilhabe in Darmstadt”, Volt and the party for work, the rule of law, animal protection, elite support and grassroots initiative (The Party).
