The new construction of the Heinrich Hoffmann School is to begin shortly. 34 trees have to be felled for the construction work.
The city administration announced that work on the new building for the Heinrich Hoffmann School with daycare center and sports hall on the edge of the Woogsviertel should start in February. The magistrate had approved the plans drawn up by the Darmstädter Stadtentwicklungsgesellschaft (DSE).
34 trees have to be felled for the new building between the city wall, Art Nouveau bath and Woogsplatz; 22 will be newly planted on the property, for the rest replacement plantings are planned on other urban plots. A BMW system also has to give way and is being rebuilt in the Bürgerpark. A primary school for 300 children, a day-care center for 100 children, a new playground and a gym that can also be used by clubs are to be built. According to the city, the construction site will be set up in mid-February, and the school and daycare center should start operations in the 2023/24 school year. “We know that we expect a lot from the residents,” says Mayor Jochen Partsch (Greens). In return, however, the neighborhood will be upgraded in the medium and long term. ”The school’s playground and leisure areas should also be accessible to the public after school is over.
CO2-neutral buildings
According to Environment Officer Barbara Akdeniz (Greens), the school and day care center will be built in a CO2-neutral manner. During the construction period, Lindenhofstrasse will be partially closed and pedestrian and bicycle traffic will be diverted to the city center.
