A new development plan for the area in the north of the Heimstättensiedlung in Darmstadt should also include residential buildings, a local supplier, business, school or daycare center.
Contrary to previous deliberations of the city, a new fire station in Darmstadt is not to be built on the site of an allotment garden at the southern entrance to the city, but to the north of the Heimstättensiedlung. After the sale of the Real supermarket chain to a Russian investor, the future of the location of the large supermarket on Eschollbrücker Strasse is also uncertain. For the more than 73,000 square meter area on which the market is located, a development plan is now to be drawn up in order to enable orderly urban development and to secure public areas for general needs under planning law.
According to a municipal submission recently passed by the city parliament, the area is to be developed as a mixed-use area, in which, in addition to housing, areas are also provided for general needs. In addition to the new fire station for the southern part of the urban area, a new school or daycare center could then also be built on the site. The area is also suitable for office and administrative use as well as “non-disruptive commercial operations”, according to the municipal submission. So far, the area had been designated as a commercial area in a development plan that has since been ineffective. However, this former definition should “no longer be pursued,” it says.
For a new location for the professional fire brigade, the plan provides for an approximately 7500 square meter plot of land. The need for a fire station in the south of the city results from the city’s fire service requirements and development plan. The new fire station in the north is to be built on a plot of land on Pfnorstrasse. The two new locations are intended to ensure that the maximum arrival time of ten minutes prescribed by law can be adhered to anywhere in the city.
