200,000 euros from the city of Darmstadt and the Merck’sche n Gesellschaft are intended to alleviate the plight of the cultural institutions somewhat.
Cultural institutions such as theaters, concert halls and cinemas are among the most battered institutions in the Corona crisis because of the many canceled events. A help fund from the city and the Merck’sche Society for Art and Science is supposed to alleviate the need somewhat.
According to the administration, the city and the Merck’sche Gesellschaft are each providing 100,000 euros as emergency aid – together 200,000 euros end up in a cultural aid fund.
The money is to be distributed “promptly and without any further bureaucratic effort” to those affected. The “Merck’sche Society for Art and Science” is a non-profit association supported by members of the Merck family,
In order to find a transparent distribution key for the funds, the city has called on the cultural institutions to revise their funding applications for this year and to quantify the expected income deficit where events have been canceled. According to the administration, they can expect grants between 400 and 15,000 euros. In addition to the emergency aid, the city wants to “largely” forego the budget-related cut in subsidies.
