A 31-year-old man was seriously injured in a kitchen fire in an apartment building in Darmstadt. According to the police, the man heated oil or fat on the stove while cooking in his rented apartment on Thursday evening, which then ignited. The man sustained serious burns while attempting to extinguish the flames.
A neighbor who heard the injured man’s cries for help was able to put out the fire with a fire extinguisher. The 39-year-old man injured his foot slightly, but did not have to go to the hospital. The tenant of the fire apartment had to be flown to a special clinic after being transported to a nearby hospital.
According to the police, there was considerable damage to the kitchen. The apartment is expected to be uninhabitable for at least 24 hours. Other apartments in the apartment building were not affected.
