The deputy head of the health department warns that completely relaxing the corona measures would be just as wrong as locking oneself in at home. 2000 quarantine cases so far in the Darmstadt-Dieburg district.

After a good twelve weeks of a corona pandemic, the deputy head of the Darmstadt Health Department, Sebastian Pflugbeil, took stock on Monday: The shutdown was “absolutely correct” and “well regulated”, he said in an interview with the district administrator of the Darmstadt-Dieburg district, Klaus Peter Schellhaas (SPD), on the Instagram portal. As a result, no one had to let people die and got around curfews.

He believes that the current phase of easing will continue for some time. It was necessary to restart, said Pflugbeil, but warned of extremes such as the call to loosen everything immediately. Locking yourself in at home, however, could not be the alternative. “We will have to live with the viral disease.” If politics regulate less, it will depend more on individual responsibility.

The complete conversation

The full conversation with Sebastian Pflugbeil, to which District Administrator Klaus Peter Schellhaas had invited, is not only available on Instagram under the profile @pitschellhaas, but also on the District Administrator’s Facebook page at https://www.facebook.com/klaus.p. bellhaas

In the district, just over 400 Covid-19 cases have caused 2,000 quarantine cases, reports Pflugbeil. In order to track all contacts of a positive test person, “real detective work” is necessary. This was only achieved because other tasks of the health authority, such as child and adolescent examinations, were left unused. In addition, 35 external forces supported the authority responsible for the district and city.

Pflugbeil takes a critical view of the federal government’s incidence value of 50 new infections per 100,000 inhabitants in seven days. At the peak of the pandemic in April, the value in the district was 20. “We have to act well before 50”, stressed Pflugbeil and is in line with representatives of other health authorities.

Laboratories have to report confirmed cases to the health authorities, which forward them to the Ministry of Social Affairs. Sometimes there are different numbers. The head of the Darmstadt Health Department, Jürgen Krahn, said on FR request that he sees a possible source of error in the fact that up to 20 employees make entries in the reporting software. For example, errors could arise when differentiating between Darmstadt and Darmstadt-Dieburg. “We compensate for this by doing ‘data inventories’, which have so far mostly led to corrections.”

The Ministry listed 222 cases of infection for Darmstadt on Tuesday; the city only spoke of 214 cases.
