In its extraordinary meeting on Friday (19th) today, the Covid-19 crisis team of the City of Science Darmstadt dealt with the currently extremely worrying development of new infections and the necessary consequences.

In order to increase the number of people who have been vaccinated, the City of Science Darmstadt, together with the health department, will set up a new vaccination station in the city center, which will be available from the end of next week and is expected to remain open for the coming months. In the Kopernikum area of the intestinal stage, which can be reached directly via the Erich-Ollenhauer-Promenade, two vaccination teams will be able to immunize up to four hundred people per day.

“This is a pragmatic solution, with which we create a good offer for all citizens, both with the booster vaccination as well as with first and second vaccinations for all those who have not yet been immunized,” emphasized Mayor Jochen Partsch. “The number of sick people is also increasing noticeably in Darmstadt and, last but not least, putting the clinics and the workers there under pressure – we are countering this with the significant expansion of the range of vaccinations.”

On Friday, 61 new laboratory-confirmed cases of Covid-19 were reported for Darmstadt, so that a cumulative 8253 laboratory-confirmed cases are now registered in Darmstadt. On Wednesday there were 41 new cases, yesterday Thursday 64. The incidence rises to 196.0.

In Darmstadt’s hospitals there are 15 (8) patients in normal and intensive care units in the Darmstadt Clinic, 8 (2) in the Elisabethenstift and 5 (0) patients in the Alice Hospital with Covid-19. The clinic is currently upgrading its capacities to take care of further Covid-19 cases; around 800 employees also receive booster immunization. In addition, the 2G rule for visitors now applies there. In the Elisabethenstift and in the Alice Hospital, access is possible for those who have been vaccinated, those who have recovered and who have tested negative for PCR.

Further restrictions apply from this Friday for the Darmstadt Christmas market

In the fenced area on Friedensplatz, 2G is now valid – so only vaccinated and convalescent people can enter. In addition, the number of guests is limited; an access traffic light provides information on how many people can enter. According to the city police, since the tightening of the rules on Wednesday, most visitors have adhered to the mask requirement and the distance rule; however, the area had to be closed at short notice again and again due to the large influx of people.
