Magdeburg (dpa) – – SV Darmstadt 98 is prematurely the autumn champion of the 2nd Bundesliga. The Hessians won 1-0 (0-0) on Thursday at 1. FC Magdeburg promoted, benefiting from a good majority of 40 minutes. Patric Pfeiffer (78th minute) provided the redemption goal, Cristiano Piccini of Magdeburg (54th) had already seen the red card for handball in front of 18,788 spectators. After 16 days of matches, leaders Darmstadt are four points clear of their rivals Hamburger SV. Magdeburg is 14 years old.
With the championship lead behind him, Darmstadt showed confidence and had a great chance to take the lead after just ten minutes. But Philip Tietz shoots out the left door on an assist from Braydon Manu. Magdeburg subsequently gained game odds, but Darmstadt scored the goal. However, Pfeiffer (33) was offside, his header after a mistake by FCM goalkeeper Dominik Reimann did not count.
Darmstadt come out of the range much busier, control the game again and play most of the second half with the majority. Piccini saw the red card for hand ball on the sidelines of the penalty area after the video evidence because the Italian had apparently prevented a clear chance from the point of view of the referee. The FCM was now very low, Darmstadt was pushing more and more in the lead, but failed again and again because of Reimann. So a standard was needed. Pfeiffer with a header from a corner kick – and this time the goal counts.
