Not only that. Companies also got in touch with the Instagramer. That is why Sarah-Louise Köhler also does advertising. And earns pocket money with it – sometimes more, sometimes less. “Last month I was able to use it to pay my rent for my room in a shared apartment in Potsdam,” she reports. “That makes student life easier.” The income is not enough for life itself – not yet.
Tips for successful petfluencers
But how do you become a successful influencer with pets? The checklist:
1. Post regularly
You can only be successful if you post photos every day. Up to three motifs a day with a little time lag. Just once a week is not enough.
2. The perfect subject
Does the pet like photo shoots? Can it be a feat or does it have a particularly funny quality? Is it versatile? The motifs should be different. Otherwise the followers will be bored.
Sarah-Louise Köhler shows a particularly large number of photos with her black cat Oskar. And there is a reason for that: Oskar can take her into the forest on a leash. Numerous pictures are created there, including some unusual ones. “He also prefers to be kidnapped.” Good conditions for interesting motifs. “But I’m also curious to see how Balou develops.” The two males are only seven and nine months old, respectively. The most difficult thing is to skillfully stage both in one picture.
3. Time and Labor
Before the perfect photo can be uploaded to Instagram, Facebook, Pinterest or Co, there is a lot of work. And that can take a few hours. The shoot alone could take an hour. “And out of a hundred photos, maybe only five are useful in the end,” reports Sarah-Louise Köhler. After all, cats cannot be forced into anything. “If they don’t feel like it anymore, then they scratch,” says the student.
Once the motifs have been selected, it is necessary to optimize the photos with a program. Every now and then she retouches a leash. That just looks better. Some petfluencers even have their own imagery.
4. The right technique
Cell phone photos are often very good, but they can’t beat a single lens reflex camera. “I used to take a lot of photos with my cell phone. I thought they were really great pictures, ”says Sarah-Louise Köhler. “But now I’m going to use an SLR again.” And the difference is enormous. The photos in RAW format can later be processed much better on the computer.
5. Communication with the followers
A lot of comments and likes from numerous followers are always nice. But that’s not enough. A community wants to be maintained. Means: Messages from followers will be answered as quickly as possible. Comments are responded to promptly. “I try to interact with my community,” reports the student. “In the meantime I also write articles.”
6. Contact with other petfluencers
Instagram is a social network. Here you get to know people with the same interests. And they should be followed just as much as they should follow you. This is how the community will grow rapidly.
