Dark Souls and Elden Ring director Hidetaka Miyazaki is honored for his life’s work

Step into a fine room with other greats.

Hidetaka Miyazaki is the “demon director” behind it Demon’s Souls, Dark Souls and Elden Ringand is now being praised for his life’s work by Japanese Computer and Entertainment Developer Conference (CEDEC). Among previous winners we find the legendary Shigeru Miyamoto, Dragon Quest-creator Yuji Hori, Playstation’s “father” Ken Kutaragi and Yu Suzuki, known for arcade magic and Shen Mue.

In other words, it is a nice company Miyazaki-san steps into, but few if any envy him this. In the justification (translated by PC Gamer) we can read why he is praised for his life’s work.

Beginning with Demon’s Souls, Miyazaki’s consistently challenging game design continues to fascinate fans and break new ground within its own genre. Fromsoftware’s most recent game, Elden Ring, is a culmination of their previous work that also achieves quality and scale that greatly surpasses what had come before.

Hidetaka Miyazaki has directed in turn Demon’s Souls (the original version), Dark Souls, Bloodborne, Dark Souls III, Sekiro: Shadows Die Twice and Elden Ring. That’s a staggering resume.

And why would it end here?
