Portal DSOGaming noticed that modder Jonx0r recently released a new video demonstrating his “remaster” of the fantasy role-playing action game Dark Souls 3 from the FromSoftware studio using the Unreal Engine 5.
The next demonstration of the Jonx0r project is dedicated to Irithyll of the Cold Valley – a city covered with ice and snow, illuminated by the Moon forever frozen above it. There are no enemies in the video, but there may be some spoilers.
The fact is that in his video, Jonx0r runs through the entire Irithyll and the adjacent cult location – from the starting bridge all the way to the battle arena with the devourer of gods Aldrik – allowing him to appreciate the local species.
Map, models, textures (pulled using the Gigapixel AI neural network), animations and sounds Jonx0r took from Dark Souls 3, and made the interface, particle effects, camera behavior and character movement as close as possible to the original source.
Jonx0r will continue to work on the port, but has no plans to release it: Firstlydue to potential legal problems, and, Secondlydue to the necessary “an incredible amount of work” (one hero has more than 4 thousand animations).
Viewers were impressed by the new demo of Dark Souls 3 on Unreal Engine 5. “Oh my God, it’s just breathtaking.”— speaks Human Person. In the comments, Jonx0r also shared details of the process of porting the game to the new engine.
Dark Souls 3 debuted in the spring of 2016 on PC (Steam), PS4 and Xbox One. The game received two story expansions and sold over 10 million copies. The project was the last in the Dark Souls trilogy.
