The opening of the Dark Sky Party is scheduled for today, 29, at 9 pm and tomorrow, 30, at Parque de Merendas do Campinho, in Reguengos de Monsaraz, with a poster comprising some of the most beautiful star attractions and much more.
The party will serve for everyone to understand the Dark Sky theme, “whether it is light pollution, even issues such as asteroids or what an astronaut’s job is, going through the universe with Miguel Claro’s photos and knowing the importance of exploration space and how it helps us in our day-to-day, by the hand of Miguel Gonçalves”, said Apolónia Rodrigues from Dark Sky.
Today will open with a lecture with the theme “Light Pollution: rejecting a legacy of the 20th century”, which will have the physics professor Raul Cerveira Lima as speaker. On the same day, the conference “Passeio Cósmico”, given by astrophotographer Miguel Claro and “Murmúrios da Terra”, with José Augusto Matos, the Dark Sky Alqueva guide and trainer in the area of astronomy, with a night observation of the sky with the naked eye , mark the debut.
The second day will also be special, as in addition to the scheduled leisure activities, it will feature a lecture by a former NASA astronaut, Heidemarie Stefanyshyn-Piper. “My Story” will be shared with the public from 10:40 pm, which “will give us a perspective of what it is like to be on a Space Station and at the bottom of the ocean on a rescue mission in submarines”, explained the founder of DarkSky.
Still on Saturday night, another conference takes place, with a member of NASA’s OSIRIS-REx Mission named Humberto Campins.
For two days, the Dark Sky Party in Campinho, Reguengos de Monsaraz, features a varied program with lectures, thematic workshops, night observation, canoeing and yoga trips.
