Dariusz Dziekanowski: Former Footballer Running for Sejm from the Civic Coalition

In an interview for “Przegląd Sportowy”, Dariusz Dziekanowski confirmed that he was on the electoral lists of the Civic Coalition. The 63-time representative of Poland will run for the Sejm from the 18th place in the Warsaw constituency.

Dariusz Dziekanowski is a legendary striker of the Polish national team. With the eagle on his chest, he appeared in 63 matches, scoring 21 goals. In club football, the footballer played m.in. in the teams of Legia Warszawa, with whom he won the league championship, Widzew Łódź, Celtic Glasgow and English Bristol City. In 1997, Dziekanowski ended his career and started working for the national team.

Donald Tusk bets on Dziekanowski. The former footballer will start from the list of the Civic Coalition

Years ago, Dariusz Dziekanowski worked in the Polish Football Association as a junior coach, and then became one of the assistants of Leo Beenhakker, who was the coach of the Polish national team in 2006-2009. Later, the 63-time national team member often appeared on various TV stations as an expert. Today, Dziekanowski is also, among others, columnist of “Przegląd Sportowy”.

On Wednesday, August 16, the former football player confirmed in an interview with the aforementioned medium that he would try to get to the Sejm again. The 60-year-old will start from the list of the Civic Coalition, specifically from the 18th place in the Warsaw district. Certainly, one of the party’s leaders, Donald Tusk, counts on many votes cast for Dariusz Dziekanowski, who is not an anonymous figure, especially in the capital.

– I will fight to get to the Sejm – said Dziekanowski. – Nobody had to persuade me too much – added the former national team striker in an interview with “Przegląd Sportowy”.

Interestingly, this will be the second attempt of the 60-year-old to get to the Sejm of the Republic of Poland. In 2015, Dariusz Dziekanowski ran for the constituency near Warsaw, but he did not manage to collect enough votes. A year earlier, in the local government elections, he was elected as a councilor of the Mazowieckie sejmik. In 2018, the 63-time representative of Poland also became a councilor of the capital city of Warsaw on behalf of the Civic Coalition. During the October elections, Dziekanowski will again try to get to the Sejm.
