Dare not bet on a big concert until next March – VG

Newlywed grandfather Bjarne Brøndbo (56) does not believe in a big concert before the 30th anniversary next March. First, the grandchild must learn «Rompa Mi».

– We have one goal in life right now: Our anniversary concert on March 26 next year. We have not planned anything after that – maybe it’s over and maybe not, says the DDE vocalist about next year’s concert in Trondheim Spektrum.

– It will be the experience of the times for us and our audience.

It can be good to have a goal to reach for, because as he says:

– It has been over a year with nothing. Part of what was decided last year has been moved to this year. But we do not know. No new jobs have been booked this year. After 30 years, it is a bit difficult to keep your motivation up.

– There were some creative ways to hold concerts early in the pandemic, but has the air gone a bit out of that balloon?

– We held two streaming concerts, but we did not feel there was any point. And then NRK shows a concert in replay this Easter. It is strange for an artist to have an infection control regime to deal with. We understand why, but it has very big consequences for our professional practice.

– Are fixed seats and good distance a format that suits DDE?

– We tried a week of concerts earlier in March. But with the closure, we only completed two out of six.

Piano and «Rompa Mi»

But off stage, life is easier. The DDE vocalist has just become a grandfather for the first time, as Namdalsavisa has mentioned.

– If the grandson is to start with an instrument – what will it be?

– It is very likely that it will be a piano. Dad Espen received a piano as a moving-in gift. All our boys play the piano, so it is likely that it may be the piano.

– And what will be the first song she hears?

– Even though it is 25 years since we released “Rompa Mi”, it is a song that all kids in Norway are mysteriously introduced to and think is very fun. So I’m not surprised if she thinks it’s nice.
