Dardennes’ latest film receives commendation from Martin Scorsese

American film director Martin Scorsese calls Tori et Lokita by Jean-Pierre and Luc Dardenne ‘one of the most heartbreaking film experiences in a long time’.

Compliments from Martin Scorsese for the latest film by the Walloon brothers Jean-Pierre and Luc Dardenne: the director of Taxi driver in The wolf of Wall Street called the drama “one of their best movies ever.” ‘Tori et Lokita is one of the most heartbreaking movie experiences I’ve had in a long time,” Scorsese said Variety. ‘I’ve always admired Jean-Pierre and Luc Dardenne for the way they make films. Their mastery is inextricably linked to their spiritual and ethical commitment to their characters, who try to find their way in an unforgiving world.’

Tori et Lokita can be seen since last Friday in Los Angeles and New York, Scorsese’s hometown. The film tells the story of two underage asylum seekers, Tori (Pablo Schils) and Lokita (Joely Mbundu), who flee to Europe pretending to be brother and sister. Flemish actors such as Charlotte De Bruyne and Tijmen Govaerts also have a supporting role in the film.

The Dardennes were awarded an anniversary prize at the Cannes Film Festival in May for the film.
