Daphne Izaguirre leaves her mark and medal in her first CCONDEKA – – 2024-02-25 02:51:05

Pride and happiness radiated from sisters Gabriella and Estefany Izaguirre, athletes of our Effort and Glory Program, with the participation of their younger sister, Daphne, in the XXIX Central American Karate Championship (CCONDEKA 2024), which was inaugurated today in the Cuna del Mágico .

Both Gaby and Fany could not control their nerves and excitement when their 12-year-old sister fought on the tatami and even more so when it was confirmed that she won bronze in her category.

It was a special and unforgettable day for the Izaguirre family because in her first CCONDEKA, Daphne achieved bronze in U14 kumite, -42 kilogram category.

“It is a joy, as it marks the beginning of my sporting career and motivates me to move forward to represent El Salvador in the following competitions like my sisters Gaby and Fany do. “I feel excited,” commented the 12-year-old athlete.

In her first fight, the Salvadoran defeated the Costa Rican Amy Vásquez in a close fight that ended 1-1, but Daphne had achieved the first point and showed greater initiative.

In the second fight she lost 0-2 against the Honduran Astrid Matute, a result with which she placed third in her first participation in a regional.

It was a special medal that marks a good start for the latest offspring of the Izaguirre clan on an international scale and in the regional competitions of this discipline.

“My sister Gaby told me ‘give it your all and you have to do more technique. Secure and fist,’” Daphne detailed about some of the advice her older sister gave her prior to her debut.

In each Daphne attack, the one who was most excited was Estefany, who kept shouting support and constant applause, while on the other side of the stands of the Cuna del Mágico, her mother Alba Luz Galdámez de Izaguirre, also celebrated with pride. and enthusiasm.

“Having his first competition be here in El Salvador is a very nice experience and it will surely help him for the following sporting challenges. Yesterday we were talking to her about her mental aspect, now she put it into practice and we are satisfied with her participation,” said Gabriella, gold medalist in the -50 kilogram category at the last Central American and Caribbean Games San Salvador 2023.

Like her sisters, Daphne also shows courage, skill, discipline and passion for karate, a sport in which the Izaguirre surname enjoys much respect and admiration.

“We are excited about her first international competition, I was a little nervous, she won a bronze medal and I think it is a good start on this path of competitions,” Gabriella highlighted.

With eight years of sports career, Daphne is projected as a promise and thus maintains the Izaguirre surname as a reference for Salvadoran karate.
