It’s supposed to start again in June: The open-air cinema “Donau, Film und Sterne” from the Dietrich Theater in Neu-Ulm starts this year’s season. “The best of the last twelve months” will be shown, announces operator Roman Sailer. Danube, film and stars: when will the open-air cinema open again in Ulm?
There should be performances by mid-September. Depending on the temperature, the outdoor cinema could still be extended. “We’ll keep it open and see how the weather will be.”
Top Gun, Avatar, Fast and Furious: These films will be shown in open-air cinemas in 2023
Sailer reports that the performance program is currently being worked on. But some titles are already certain:

- Avatar: The Way of Water
- sun and concrete
- The Banshees of Inisherin
- Super Mario Bros
- Manta Manta 2
- Dungeons and Dragons
- Fast and Furious 10
When selecting the films, a mixture of the most popular blockbusters, art house, old and new is chosen. The program will soon be published on the Donau, Film und Sterne website and should always cover a period of two weeks – “so that the guests can plan”.
Open-air cinema in Ulm: What happens when the weather is bad?
In rain and thunderstorms, a performance literally falls through. “If it rains, there will be a cancellation. We communicate that via social media,” explains Sailer. As a rule, it is communicated by 5.30 p.m. at the latest whether an event is cancelled.
Where can I buy tickets for the outdoor cinema?
Tickets can be bought online or at the box offices of the Dietrich-Theater, the Mephisto, the Lichtburg and the Obscura cinema. However, Sailer recommends buying online because: “The moment we cancel an event, we automatically cancel the tickets.” The amount paid is credited back to the customer directly. However, customers who have bought an analogue ticket do not have to bear the costs either. In the event of cancellation, the price will be refunded at the box office.
Is there anything new in the open-air cinema compared to last year? “Honestly no,” admits Sailer. “We had a nice open-air season last year. We took everything that had proven itself with us.” But there is one mini novelty. All guests who bought their ticket at the box office will now receive the ticket in the look of the open-air cinema.
Prices and ten-ticket for outdoor cinema
Tickets for a “Danube, Film and Stars” performance cost ten euros. Roman Sailer, operator of the cinema, recommends film junkies the ten-ticket for 64.90 euros. “The ticket is limited to 500 pieces.” Can also be redeemed in the Dietrich Theater, in the Lichtburg, in the Obscura and Mephisto cinemas. The transferable ten-pass is available until the end of July.
