Denies criminal guilt

Masterson denies criminal guilt, and his lawyers say they want to prove his innocence.

They believe that the events the three women are talking about, which happened between 2001 and 2003, happened so long ago that it is not possible to have exact memories. Masterson’s lawyers also claim that the women have coordinated their stories.

– Memories fade, and memories change, says Masterson’s lawyer, Sharon Appelbau, according to AP.

His main defender, Thomas Mesereau, is a prominent lawyer, who, among other things, defended Michael Jackson and Bill Cosby when they were accused of sexual abuse.

Scientology connection

During the hearing, he is said to have indicated that both the police, the prosecution and witnesses could be characterized by negative attitudes towards the Church of Scientology, the news agency writes.

Masterson is a well-known Scientologist, while the three women who accuse him of rape formerly belonged to the Church of Scientology.

One of the women said she was friends with Masterson from the church. In 2003, he allegedly took her up to the hot tub at his home in Los Angeles. He then allegedly raped her in his bedroom, the woman claims. Masterson’s defenders say the two had consensual sex.

Another woman is said to have had a relationship with Masterson for several years when she woke up one night when he raped her, she told the hearing.

A third woman claims she was raped by Masterson when she came to his home one evening in 2003.

Arrested last year

Masterson is best known for one of the lead roles in the TV series “That 70s show”. He played again with Ashton Kutcher in the series “The Ranch”, but was discharged from the series when the police in LA started investigating the rape charges in March 2017.

Masterson was arrested on rape charges in June last year, but was later released on bail.
