Danny Green announces his retirement after 15 seasons and 3 NBA rings

Washington, Oct 10 (EFE).- American shooting guard Danny Green announced this Thursday his retirement from professional basketball after 15 seasons in the elite and three NBA championships won with the San Antonio Spurs (2014), Toronto Raptors (2019) and Los Angeles Lakers (2020).

“I never imagined writing this letter, although I knew this day would eventually come,” Green, 37, said in a message on his social media.

“My life has revolved around this sport, taking me around the world and meeting incredible people. It has been an extraordinary journey that I am immensely proud of,” he added.

Green came to the NBA in the 2009-2010 season, after being chosen in the draft by the Cleveland Cavaliers.

The San Antonio Spurs acquired his services the following season, a franchise in which Green would spend half of his career, winning his first NBA ring in 2014 alongside the legendary team of Manu Ginobili and Tim Duncan.

He then won the 2019 championship in Toronto with Marc Gasol and the 2020 championship in the Lakers with LeBron James.

He stood out especially from the triple line, with a 40% accuracy rate throughout his career.

Green was without a team after being released by the Philadelphia 76ers at the beginning of last season.

The three-time NBA champion has a podcast called “Inside the Green Room” in which this Thursday he planned to give more details about his decision.
