– Around 8:30 p.m. Yemen time today, the container ship Maersk Hangzhou reported that it had been hit by a missile in the southern part of the Red Sea, it says in a statement from the American Central Command (Centcom) night to Sunday Norwegian time.
Maersk Hangzhou sails under the Singapore flag and is owned and operated by the Danish shipping company Maersk.
The vessel requested assistance during the attack. The US Navy ships USS Gravely and USS Laboon responded to the distress call.
– The vessel is reported to be seaworthy and no injuries have been reported on board, Centcom states.
The USS Gravely shot down two missiles fired from Houthi-controlled areas in Yemen that were heading towards the ships.
This is the 23rd attack in which the Iran-backed Houthi movement has attacked civilian ships since November 19.
Two Norwegian ships are among the vessels that have been attacked.
The Houthis have said they are doing this to show opposition to Israel’s warfare in the Gaza Strip.
