Danske Bank, through its Lithuanian branch, has helped Deutsche Bank make more than $ 600 million in suspicious transactions, according to Danish media, Reuters reports.
Transfers were made in the period between 2012 and 2015
Reports published by the Danish newspapers Berlingske and Politiken refer to leaked documents from Deutsche Bank. They state that Deutsche Bank has carried out so-called mirror transactions worth about $ 627 million. Transactions were made through the Lithuanian branch of Danske Bank.
Representatives of Deutsche Bank have declined to comment, while representatives of Danske Bank have indicated that they will not comment on specific transactions, given that an investigation is ongoing.
Already in 2017, Deutsche Bank paid a $ 425 million fine to the United States for a mirror transaction scheme, under which $ 10 billion was transferred from Russia between 2011 and 2015.
Mirror transactions take place as follows – for example, Russian shares are purchased in rubles on behalf of one client, while securities of identical value in US dollars are sold at the same time. These transactions are legal, but provide good ground for money laundering transactions.
It should be recalled that the authorities of the USA and other countries are currently investigating the role of Deutsche Bank in the money laundering scandal in Estonia, where suspicious transfers worth 200 billion euros were made through a branch of Danske Bank.
