Only the official announcement was missing for a month, which arrived today: Danilo has extended his contract with the Juventus. The Brazilian defender, fresh from the goal scored in the derby, has chosen to remain in black and white regardless of the club’s future, renewing the agreement that has linked him to the club since 2019. Arrived thanks to the exchange with Cancelo from Manchester City, the fullback has turned into a point of reference day after day, both for his impact in the dressing room and from a tactical point of view by becoming central.
The debut with a goal, Danilo’s climb
The arrival in Turin was not easy: via Cancelo, a brilliant, technical full-back, capable of making the fans fall in love with his dribbling, inside Danilo, a solid, unspectacular defender, the least “Brazilian” after Alex Sandro. Yet despite the presence of Sarri on the bench in the midst of the aborted gaming revolution, the beginning of the adventure was the best possible: the first goal scored against Napoli came after entering the field in the 15th minute in place of De Scigio , injured during the match. Corner kick for the Azzurri, ball recovered by the defense, launch for Danilo’s escape who scored after a handful of breaths after his entry. Yet after four games the most difficult period began, with injuries, benches and little confidence on the part of the coach. Better with the arrival of Pirlo, who gave him the starting position and towards the end of the season reinvented him as a midfielder in front of the defence. However, the explosion came with Allegri, who exalted his physical, human and technical skills and his time in interventions by moving him to central defence.
The rebirth with Allegri
Danilo has become the leader of the locker room, his star has become the brightest in the eyes of his teammates while those of Bonucci and Chiellini have faded. Atypical Brazilian, we said, capable of blocking the defence, playing outside or central. Last year an adductor injury took him off the stage for nine games, this year he is the most present in the black and white squad. His goals against Atalanta last year, a decisive goal for Champions qualification, and the three scored this season explain Danilo’s importance: all decisive, all fundamental to achieving the goals set. Along with the 33 appearances out of 34 games, with the only forfeit coming against PSG in the Champions League due to suspension, the captain’s armband also arrived and, today, the contract renewal. Danilo will remain at Juventus, despite the future of the club: “Soul. Warrior. Leader” were the words chosen by the club to describe these four years and to present the next two.
