Danilo Carrera announces Ecuadorian tennis participation in Billie Jean King Cup and South American Games

Danilo Carrera, president of the Ecuadorian Tennis Federation, offered a press conference in which details were reported on two important issues for Ecuadorian tennis: Billie Jean King Cup and the V South American Games in Playa Santa Marta 2023.

In the first instance, the official uniforms were delivered to the absolute women’s team that will represent us in the Billie Jean King Cup American Zone II (called the Women’s Davis Cup), to be held from July 26 to 29 in the Dominican Republic. In addition, the gold and bronze medalists who won at the V South American Games in Playa Santa Marta 2023, by María Emilia Quintana and Andrés Cabezas, were present.

María Emilia Quintana became one of the stars of the V South American Games after winning two medals (one gold and one bronze) in the discipline of beach tennis.

On Tuesday, July 18, the Ecuadorian junior, ranked 235th in the ITF ranking, won the singles final 6-2, 3-6, (10-7) over Chilean Francisca Zúñiga.

To reach the final, Quintana defeated Bolivian Sofia Sciaroni 6-1, 6-0 in the first round. She then defeated Brazil’s Julia Florio Cyrino, the tournament’s 2 seed, 6-4, 6-3. In the quarterfinals, she beat the Paraguayan Maria Galanti by a double 6-1; and, in the semifinals, the Venezuelan Andrea Colavita 6-0, 6-2.

Before, María Emilia Quintana together with Andrés Cabezas won the bronze medal in mixed doubles. In the match for third place, they beat Chileans Cecilia Costa Melgar and Vicente Brusadelli Toro 6-2, 6-1. (D)
