The first racket of Russia Daniil Medvedev said that he would not try to influence the decision on the participation of Russian and Belarusian athletes in Wimbledon this year. Tennis player’s words leads Reuters.

“I’m not going to make that decision for them or even help them make that decision. They have to accept it themselves for their different reasons, as they did last year,” Medvedev said.

The Russian added that he would make any decision regarding his participation in the tournament. “I play where I can play. Tennis is my job, so I would be very happy to play at Wimbledon. I love this tournament very much, but if it’s not meant to be [в этом году]I will wait for the opportunity to return there, ”he said.

Times learned about plans to allow Russians to Wimbledon because of the threat of sanctions

Russians and Belarusians playing at the tournaments of the Association of Tennis Professionals (ATP) and the Women’s Tennis Association (WTA) in a neutral status last year were not allowed only to tournaments in the UK, including Wimbledon.

ATP and WTA for this deprived Wimbledon of rating points, fined the organizers – the Lawn Tennis Association (LTA) of Great Britain – $ 1 million each and threatened to exclude the tournament from the calendar.
