The first racket of Russia Daniil Medvedev defeated the Czech Jiri Legechka and reached the quarterfinals of Wimbledon for the first time.
The match ended with the score 6:4, 6:2 in favor of the Russian. In the third set, the Czech refused to continue playing. Tennis players spent 1 hour and 30 minutes on the court. Medvedev fired nine times, made two double faults and converted three break points out of 14 earned.
Thus, the Russian for the first time reached the quarterfinals of the British Wimbledon tournament. Now he got to this stage in all the Grand Slam tournaments.
Throughout his career, he has seven quarter-finals at the Grand Slam tournaments: three at the US Open, two at the Australian Open and one each at Roland Garros and Wimbledon.
In the 1/4 finals in London, he will continue to play with the winner of the pair Stefanos Tsitsipas – Christopher Eubanks.
Medvedev is the third racket of the world, he has 20 ATP titles in his career. The Russian has won titles in Rotterdam, Doha, Dubai this season, as well as at the Masters in Miami and Rome. At Wimbledon, he did not go beyond the fourth round. Wimbledon will end on July 15th. The total prize pool of the tournament is £44.7 million.
