Russian tennis player Daniil Medvedev said at a press conference after the defeat in the first round of Roland Garros that he was happy with the end of the clay season.
“Because of the wind and the dry court, I ate clay, probably from the third game of the meeting, and I don’t like it. I don’t know if people like to eat dirt in their bags, in their boots, socks, white socks that you can throw in the trash after the dirt season. Maybe someone likes it. But not for me,” Medvedev said.
The Brazilian called the victory over Medvedev at Roland Garros a dream come true
Medvedev, the second racket of the world, lost in the first round of Roland Garros to the Brazilian Thiago Seibot with a score of 6:7 (5:7), 7:6 (8:6), 6:2, 3:6, 4:6.
The Russian tennis player does not think he had a bad match. “I’m not going to watch the game on TV, but I felt that the opponent played well. I don’t think I played that badly, but he played well,” Medvedev said.
The 23-year-old Seibot is currently ranked 172 in the ATP rankings. “If he continues to play like this, he will be in the top 30 at the end of the year. But the last time I said something like that about someone, he didn’t succeed. I hope that he still succeeds, otherwise I will be disappointed and will ask: “Why today?” Medvedev concluded.
