Daniela Campos.
Daniela Campos, 24, has left an indelible mark on Peruvian sport by securing the first gold medal in Para archery during the Santiago 2023 Games. This feat not only places her as the best in America in her discipline, but rather it gives her a direct ticket to the Paris 2024 Paralympic Games, where she aspires to establish herself as the best in the world.
Originally from Callao, Daniela travels daily to the San Miguel district, where she trains with dedication at the Legado Costa Verde headquarters. Her bow, which weighs almost four kilos, has become an extension of her determination to overcome any obstacle. Born with spina bifida, a congenital disease that affects the spine, Daniela has turned her disability into a source of inspiration.
«Happy to be part of the history of parasports in Peru, I have the support of an association and I am sure that this medal will motivate young talents. They have to surround themselves with positive people who push them to fulfill their dreams,” says Daniela, affectionately known as ‘Dani’.
His adaptive sports journey began with surfing, but it was archery that captured his heart. Despite her initial challenges and the need for great physical and mental strength, Daniela persevered and is now a recurve bow specialist.
In addition to her sporting achievements, Daniela has found the perfect balance between her training at the Legado Costa Verde headquarters and her fashion design and management studies. She thanks Legado for providing her with the right space to achieve her goals and for inspiring other high-performance athletes.
«I feel grateful to Legado because I would not have achieved a medal without having an adequate space to train. Here we can shoot at 50 or 70 meters; “In addition, we see other high-performance athletes and we feel motivated,” he adds.
While Daniela continues to inspire with her story of improvement and success, the Legado headquarters continue to be the stage where athletes and for athletes prepare for Paris 2024, seeking to replicate the success of ‘Team Peru’ in Santiago 2023.
