World Cup in downhill skiing – Chamonix (France)
Men – slalom, 1.+2. wheel:
CHAMONIX. Swiss skier Daniel Yule triumphed in Sunday’s World Cup slalom in Chamonix.
On the Verte ski slope in the French resort, he was only in 30th place after the first round, but in the second he confidently performed the fastest ride and won by 16 hundredths of a second ahead of compatriot Loic Meillard.
Clément Noel (+0.18 s), who did not maintain the leading position after the opening round, finished third.
“Absolutely unbelievable. I was very lucky to stay in 30th place after the first lap. Then I did a great ride in the second lap. I was ready to go to the hotel. But I got the opportunity to ski the second lap and I took advantage of it.
I knew I had a shortage of competitors in front of me. But maybe I thought when the conditions changed that I could fight for the top ten. Victory would be incredible, but it happened. I’m very happy that Loic is with me on the stage,” said Yule at the finish line for FIS TV.
He won for the first time in the season
Yule took his first win of the season and seventh individual of his career with the fastest time in the second round.
According to the AFP agency, he became the first man to go from 30th place to first in slalom.

He recorded all his triumphs in slalom, the last time he enjoyed it on January 22, 2023 in Kitzbühel. Thanks to the gain of 100 points, the Swiss jumped to the third place in the classification of the discipline.
Manuel Feller remained the leader in the slalom standings, increasing his lead over the second German Linus Strasser to 164 points.
Home team Noel led after the 1st round, when he coped best with the goals scored, mainly the middle part worked for him.
The closest to him was Haugan, who had a deficit of 23 hundredths. Less than half a second (+0.40 s) was lost by Feller, the winner of three slaloms this season.
Strasser did not follow up on the previous triumphs from Kitzbühel and Schladming in the opening round and was only in 17th place (+ 1.24 s).
Noel lost his lead at the end
The organizers delayed the start of the second round ten minutes later due to timing problems. The Swiss Yule started first, he got so much out of the modified track that no one beat him in the overall time.
Strasser wanted to attack from the provisional seventeenth position, but even the second run did not go as expected and he ended up in joint 14th place together with the Austrian Johannes Strolz.
Meillard was fifth and managed to get the closest to Yule, losing only 16 hundredths. The leader after the first lap, Noel, still had a lead at the last split.
In the end, however, the Olympic champion from the 2022 Olympics lost, but it was enough just like in Schladming for the podium. Slovakia was not represented in the competition.
In Chamonix on Friday and Saturday, the downhills were to be held, but the International Ski Federation (FIS) canceled them due to unfavorable snow conditions and high temperatures.
The governing body tried to find a replacement for two congresses on the same date, but no suitable solution was found due to time constraints.
